What it is : This is a rechargeable lantern that can also be used as a battery bank.

Agenda Free Link : https://www.amazon.com/Nite-IZE/dp/B07TNLQ529?th=1

Versions :
300 Lumens
314 Lumens
There is also a 400 Lumen version; it looks similar but doesn’t feature the built in battery.

Battery Size : 2,600mAh

Battery : Lithium Polymer

Price :
300 lumen version : $40
314 lumens version : $45

Includes :
Micro-USB cable
White Carry bag that also diffuses the light - I lost it a long time ago.

Materials : Plastic

LEDS : 1 center, 6 red - I could find no mention of what the LEDS are.

Modes :
High - 300 lumens - 5 hours of run time
Medium - 75 lumens - 20 hours run time
Low - 15 - 110hours of run time
Red - 18 - Push and hold for red mode - 27 hours run time

……
Forward :
At least 2 years ago, a viewer sent this lantern in and I have been using it ever since.

I’ve mentioned that there are two versions of this lantern, the 300rl and the 314; the 314 model is the latest from Nite Ize and has replaced the 300RL officially. With that being said, you can still find the 300RL for sale and since I receive so many questions about it I’m here with the review.

Both versions of this lantern appear to be exactly the same as far as features go.
……
Review Pros :
After using this product for years I can easily tell you that it has been an excellent lantern.

Battery life has been very good and easily covers my needs for multi day adventures when I don’t mind bringing a luxury item.

Produces plenty of light to see around a picnic table or inside of a tent.

Easy to Operate

Good size

Red light is useful - I often use it when turning in at night;

Battery retains a charge for a long period of time.

Fairly Lightweight

Large button is easy to activate but not too easy - can be activated even with gloves on

Can be used to juice up a device but the capacity isn’t all that large.
……..
Review Cons :

No lockout function - the power button is large and it is possible to activate it when in your bag.

Fairly expensive; you can get lanterns for far less that offer more lumens.

Battery is non removable - if you have an issue, it can’t be replaced.

No USB C port - uses out dating MicroUSB

The biggest con that I have with this lantern are the potential issues that one may have with it. No, I haven’t had any issues but the net is FULL of reports of people who have had a wide range of issues. I’ve seen countless reports of these lanterns ceasing to work, falling apart and units that won’t hold a charge.
…..
Interesting :
While getting the details together for this review, I discovered that there are relabel versions of this Lantern. In fact, LL Bean has their very own version; the 300 Trailblazer ($50).

Summary :
While this lantern has performed extremely well for me over the years I do have a hard time recommending it based on the high amount of issues and problems that I have seen for every model that Nite Ize makes. For every positive review there have got to be at least 2 negatives.

Tasmanian Tiger 3 Piece Mesh Pocket Set Kit Bags

Agenda Free Link : https://tasmaniantigerusa.com/product.php?id=30

Price : $16

Materials :
YKK zippers
Bug Beater Mesh
T-Cover Tex - that is a lightweight waterproof polyester that is usually used with stuff bags and rain covers
Plastic clips

Sizes :
Sm: 3.75 x 5.75in | 9.5 x 14.5cm
Md: 9.5 x 7.5in | 24 x 19cm
Lg: 13.5 x 9.5in | 34.5 x 24cm

Weights : 2.8oz for the 3 bags
Sm: 0.7oz | 20g
Md: 0.9oz | 25g
Lg: 1.25oz | 35g

Review Pros :

Very good quality

Excellent materials

Very fair price

Colored coded zippers so you can easily identify the bags and their contents.

Incredibly lightweight

Have been very durable so far with my testing - after roughly 4 months of use

Clips on each bag

Bags are see through so you can see the contents

Smooth zippers

Versatile - I’ve used these pouches for all sort of purposes including hiking, backpacking, photography and even biking.

The bottoms of the bags feature gussets so it is possible that they stand up; it depends on what you pack in the bags though whether or not that is possible though.

Great for organizing your gear

Review Cons :
No zipper pulls

Because these are mesh bags one will need to be gentler with these than with some other bags. Speaking of which, TT makes other pouches who are stronger and I will be reviewing those soon.

Summary :

For the money, these Pouches from TT offer a really good ratio of quality, durability, and versatility.

TT is a company that I am beginning to explore and while testing these I have been testing some other gear bags and even a backpack.

So far I am very impressed with what I’m seeing here and everything that I have heard from my viewers has been very positive.

Going back to the bags, there are plenty of storage bag options on the market today, I have reviewed many and these are just as good in many ways...these are also less expensive than many that I have reviewed

Thumbs up

Price :
Retail $560
Amazon Currently $533

Weight : 4lbs

Measurements :
82.6” long x 61” wide x 41.3” tall

Versions :
1.5 P, 2P, 2.5P, 4P

Doors : 2

Best Use : Late 3 Season even though the company claims this to be a 4 season tent.

Semi-free standing with only the doors having to be staked.

Materials :
Pole material : DAC NSL 9mm
Inner fabric : 20D Monofila
Rainfly fabric : 15D N/R silicone/PU coated
Floor fabric : 20D N/R silicone/PU coated

Review Pros :
Excellent quality materials and construction
Fly first design - tent stays dry when setting up the shelter in the rain.
Easy setup
Extremely waterproof
Good overall breathability - condensation levels are within reason
Ventilation is good.
Tons of space with the 2.5 version. Plenty of room for 2 people and their gear.
Plenty of pockets
Good vestibules
Inner fabrics does block some wind and hold in some heat -
Good size stuff sack
Hook for the door is smart and easy to use

Good weight for a 2.5p tent
Poles are robust

Review Cons
:
No way to guy the tent out - only with 2 season tents have I seen this before and for a 4 season tent it is unbelievable that there are no upper guy points - especially considering how tall this tent is.

You have to stake the tent out around the bottom and that’s it which makes this tent dangerous for strong winds. If you can’t anchor a tent from the top down, you put an incredible amount of force on the lower points. I’ve seen tents shredded because the users didn’t guy out the top of a tent….the problem they had were because of a choice, with this tent, it doesn’t even give you the option.

To add to the stake out problems, not enough tent stakes are included; you get 6 but you need 8. For a tent that is this expensive it’s crazy that you don’t receive enough to fully stake it out.

Pole clips do not inspire confidence and shouldn’t be tested in strong winds. They don’t snap into place as securely as you think they should.

Poles are exposed and are going to be subject to freezing if used in the winter months.

I spoke of the inner fabric, it does block some wind and hold in some heat but it’s thinner than your average 4 season tent fabric so it isn’t as effective as it could be. In breezy conditions you will feel the air coming through.

No mesh for the doors - limits airflow

Yellow fly and inner makes for a very bright inside; with sun overhead, you might have to wear your sunglasses.

Price is a con : very expensive

Summary :

This tent is a real oddity and it has left Susie and scratching our heads. We love the quality, the size, the space, the setup & the waterproofness but it’s insanely expensive and this is going to be a limited use shelter because of the reasons stated.

Because it is a double wall tent & the fact that it has a fabric inner that is thinner than the average 4 season tent, the window of time to use this tent is very limited.

It’s blocks too much air & holds in too much warmth for summer use & doesn’t block enough wind and hold in enough warmth for winter use.

In my opinion, this is a fall only tent; low bugs, temps around 70F & below. It could handle some minor snowloading but isn’t recommended for any sort of wind.

Susie & I were talking about this tent, we want to like it but because of the oddities it simply doesn’t make any sense but with some alterations & a lower price tag, this could be an awesome shelter.

The company needs to make up their mind, is this a 3 season tent or a 4 season tent? One tent for all seasons doesn’t make sense & unfortunately that is how this tent is recommended by Zero Gram.

Add guy points, change the pole clips……

Get Out Gear Down Puffy Camping Blanket - Review

What is it : This is an ultralight summer time down blanket that can be used in numerous ways. For an example, I’ve taken this across the country as part of my overlanding kit, I’ve taken it backpacking and after a long testing period, I am ready to share my thoughts.

Agenda Free Link : https://www.amazon.com/Get-Out-Gear-Camping-Blanket/dp/B07VCN7TNB

Price : $70

Materials :
20D Ripstop
650 Fill Down (80/20 blend of duck down and weathers)

Weight :
Company claims 1.1lbs with stuff sack - accurate

Measurements :
77”x50”

Colors :
Black, Blue, Grey, Green, Orange, Blue

Versions :
Down and Synthetic - The Synthetic version is heavier and is slightly less expensive.
More about it in a minute

Features :
Durable Water Repellent coating
Can be worn as a poncho with included snaps
Roll top Stuff bag

Temp Rating : This is going to be very, very subjective as everyone is different when it comes to temperature and what they find comfortable.

For myself, it has kept me warm down to 50F while wearing clothing; shirt, socks and pants. I tend to run hot.

For Susie, it has kept her warm down to around 60 and she runs cold.

Keep in mind that this is a 1lb blanket, don’t expect to be rocking this by itself in cold weather and you’ll be fine. Again, temp rating are very suggestive; there is going to be someone out there who says they used it below freezing in a blizzard on Everest and they were hot…..but that isn’t going to be the case for most people. The temp range that I stated is reasonably accurate.

Review Pros :

Excellent warm weather insulation option;
Overall quality is good; stitching is good, snaps are good.

Nylon material is comfortable against the skin.

Extremely lightweight

Excellent supplemental insulation layer; in other words, when using this with additional components it shines; use it with a sleeping bag liner, use it to add some warmth to your existing sleeping bag.

Example : I have a sleeping bag liner from Carinthia and in conjunction with this blanket, low 40’s is easily achievable and together it’s a lightweight kit.

Good color options

Very compressible.

Stuff bag is excellent - good size, easy to stuff, roll top

Price is comparable to other offersing

Review Cons :

With that being said, for what you are receiving as far as down goes, less than a pound, this blanket feel expensive. Susie thought that it cost $35 and was shocked to see a price tag of $70.

Small - some individuals will want and need a larger blanket - this is not very wide. Because it is so small, it is easy to become uncovered as you toss and turn throughout the night.

Thin

Snaps - As is, I do not find them to be useful - I would have liked to see snaps on the top and bottom - it would help with staying warm in cool conditions as it would prevent the blanket from falling away when tossing and turning.

A foot box would be very beneficial and would be easy to add to this product.

Down loss : Susie and I both have one of these blankets and we both experienced some initial down loss which has stopped. I never saw where the features were coming from but when we got them and first used them we both had feathers on us during the first couple of nights out. Feathers might have been in the stuff bag…not sure

Summary Review :

I have gone over a lot of pros and cons and I’m sure that you are wondering, do i recommend this or not;

There is a time and a place for this product and I wish that the company was a bit more forthcoming about when that time was. The company claims that it is comfortable 45F with a sleeping pad but I do not find that to be accurate.

There are the issues with the measurements and then the difficulty to distinguish the down from the synthetic versions.

I do like the product and there are times and ways to use it where it works well; for some it will be worth it and for others, this is not going to be a beneficial product.

Comment down below, what do you think of this down blanket? Is this a product for you?

Decathlon Forclaz Air Short Trek 700 Sleeping Pad Review

Price : $45

Weight : 13.3 oz with the storage bag

Materials :
Thermoplastic polyurethane and polyester

Measurements :
Inflated : 47.2” x 20.5” x 2.2”
Stored : 3.3” x 8.3”

Sizes : One only - no XL versions

Colors : Gray Only

R-Value : 1.6

Chambers : 8

Review Pros :
Lightweight
Small sizer pad which is great for summer use
Compact size
Good thickness - certainly keeps you off of the ground thanks to the chambers

Good quality - I’ve had no issues with leaking air
Excellent valves - two way and anti-return
Easy to inflate and to release air
Easy to adjust firmness

Comfortable - the chambers are thick enough to keep your body off of the ground. Firmness is adjustable so you can get the right level for you rather easily. Firm or soft while staying off of the ground.

While those are the pros, there is a con to mention and I speak of this in a moment.

Review Cons :

My biggest issue with the pad are the no slip silicone patches that are on top of this pad; if you are using a sleeping bag then it won’t be an issue and the pad is comfortable but if you are using a blanket or a quilt they may be.

For summer use, I tend to use a quilt or blanket and these pads pull my hair when I am tossing and turning. They will pull at your clothing making tossing and turning more of an experience than it really needs to be.

To me it is a bit weird that the pad has silicon patches on top instead of the bottom; falling off of a pad isn’t a problem with most pads but having a pad slip around is.

You can turn the pad over and that is what I do; but you will have the air valves next to your head; with a pillow I haven’t found this to be an issue and is a more comfortable way to use the pad.

What the company needs to think about here is that this a half mat, a short mat and these are used in warmer conditions and having those anti slip patches aren’t really needed.

Small storage bag - a little larger would make for easier rolling up of the pad and putting the pad in.

Advice : Throw away the storage bag, use it for something else; use a rubber band to keep it compressed when out on a trip. The bag is irritating to use and will require you to roll it tightly so that it fits.

Slightly loud when moving around

Summary :

I like half mats, short mats, and I like this pad for the money. The overall quality is very good, it offers good comfort for the money even though it could be better. Again, the silicon patches are a bit weird to me but turning the pad over does make them more useful.

Talking about use, I like half pads in warmer conditions and tend to stop using them once the temp goes below 50f.

This pad is good enough that I am interested in checking out the full size versions; for the money, they may be hard to beat. We will see about that soon enough.

Complaint : This has nothing to do with the pad itself and is more of a mentionable for Decathlon; work on your website and how products are presented when searching. When I went to their site to look at sleeping pads, I typed in Sleeping Pad and it brought up nothing but sleeping bags.

I typed in sleeping mat and it brought up tents.

I type in air mat and it brought up foam pads.

I then typed in air mattress and it finally brought up what i was looking for.
