The long straps could be used to wrap around a tree and clasp on the side of the tree away from the main pack body. The complete back portion of the back can be opened and draped down toward the ground. With the attachment points inside the pack, it looks like items used at the site could be secured there for easy access. The design of this pack affords easy access to the side compartments as well when attached to a tree. This is just a guess but it looks like that's how it's designed to me.
