  2. Luke: I was so lucky as a child to have been in boy scouts, and having my dad as the scout master. We would go on many camp outs, and hikes together. The thing I really liked was the campfire stories he would tell at night. It was the best of times. Well life moved on and I grew up, and got married. Living half way across the united states, fifteen years went by until I saw my dad again. Only now he was dying in a hospital bed, and he could not talk. So now it was my turn to tell him stories. He would just lay there and listen to me. It was then I realized It was just like the days when we were camping, and sitting around the camp fire. Although he passed away not long after, I will always remember our special little time together we had, if even for just one more time. So thank you Luke for all you do keeping the campfire stories alive.

  4. When I was a child my family owned a remote cabin in the Sangre De Cristo mountain range in Northern New Mexico. One of my fondest memories as a child with my dad was our time spent at that cabin. We didn't have running water, a phone, or T.V, so everything was all family oriented. We would hike the trails and fish the mountain streams during the day, and sit around a camp fire at night talking and telling stories. As a dad myself now I try to recreate experiences like that for my kids. I often wonder if my kids will remember our time together as I remember the times with my dad. In my mind, if I can be even half the dad to my kids as my dad was to me, I will have been successful.

  5. Luke there are many awesome memories where my father and I bonded as only a boy and his dad can. We were fishing on Lake Erie, Long Point Bay and fishing the reed beds was very productive. This was 1978, we did not have
live wells but a trusty stringer. Da would catch a large mouth bass and I would immediately help by adding the fish to our stringer. As soon as I would get ready to fish my father would say 'got another one'. It seemed that all I was doing was putting dad's fish on the stringer. Ultimately I forgot to hook the loaded stringer back to the boat as I was trying to hurry to fish. There went the whole stringer of fish away from the boat. It was cold, the wind was blowing and I tossed my bill fold as I jumped overboard. Somehow I grabbed the stringer by luck only. I made it back to the boat and my dad is screaming what on earth is wrong with you?!!! I then handed the stringer to him and crawled back into the boat shivering and lips trembling. My dad then had this magic smile as he said, 'we make a hell of a team don't we son'. Yea I miss my dad, badly on fathers day.

  8. Sean D, under my wife's account:
One of my fondest memories with my dad was June 2008 when he, my son and I went to an airshow in Huntsville, AL at the airport. My dad and I are both engineers, so getting to see F-15s, F-16s, C-130s and Blackhawk helicopters up close was fascinating. It gave us a good idea of all the work that went into designing these machines. My son was just two at the time, and we took pictures of him in the cockpits of Lakota and Blackhawk helicopters. On top of all that, the Blue Angels were there as well, and we got to walk by the flightline as their F-18s were idling before the performance. The best part was having three generations of our family present for such an enjoyable event.

  11. Luke, I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time with my Dad and Grandfather through the years. We went to Wyoming, Canada, Ohio, Missouri, Delaware and Pennsylvania Hunting, fishing, and camping. I feel blessed to have spent so much time with my Dad and grandfather. My grandfather lost a long bought with alzheimers disease in 2013. My grandfather and my Dad have shaped me into the man I am today. What can I say the outdoors is a fantastic way to teach your kids skills and just have a overall blast together and grow really close. My favorite moment with my Dad was a trip to Wyoming were my Dad, Grandfather, Uncle, and I went mule deer hunting and Trout Fishing for 10 days. I really enjoyed it. My grandfather got a mule deer that was down over a cliff. My dad and I repelled down the cliff, got the deer, hoisted it back up to the top, and then got ourselves back up. My dad and I discovered that when we put our minds together we could accomplish anything. Love ya Dad! Love ya Pap!
