What I have here today is a very lightweight sleeping bag quilt that I've already begun testing out and I can tell you all that I'm very impressed.
This is a hybrid product, it forms a sleeping bag for when you are getting chilly or it could be a quilt blanket which you lay over the top of you when it's warm out.
It is lightweight, very inexpensive, and as I mentioned I'm impressed with it so far

8 years ago I reviewed a simple but versatile blanket - a modern day woobie blanket of sorts - I loved it then and I continue to love the product now.
This is the Snugpak Jungle Blanket - a top notch product that I can easily recommend for many different reasons :
It’s highly Versatile, cost-effective, and built to last and in this episode I am going over my 8 year review of this product and I will be sharing why I have purchased 44 of these blankets to date.

Travelsoft Insulation - retains heat even when wet - easily washable
Treatment :
The outer shell and the inner lining has been treated with a Paratex antibacterial treatment - this discourages the growth of bacterial which means you don’t have to wash the blanket as often as you would with similar products.
Temperature rating :
The company claims that the blanket is dual rated for 45F and 36F.
I’m not entirely sure what this means exactly and they don’t state - my advice is to use this blanket with regular clothing - socks, pants, shirt, with temps down to 55f. At 55F and above most people are going to be comfortable unless you are someone who runs cold. You will also need a good r-value sleeping pad for cold weather camping to be comfortable.
Dimensions Stored :
7x7 for the regular -
I don’t have the larger version and don’t have that figure for you.
Dimensions Unfolded :
Regular : 76 inches by 64 inches
Large : 90 inches by 72 inches
Weight :
Regular : 1.5lbs for the blanket / 1.7lbs with the storage bag
Large : 2lbs for the blanket / 2.2lbs with the storage bag included

FYI; I don't live in the Deep Gap area, I only have a PO Box there for packages due to privacy; it may take me a few weeks to check the box due to distance. ... The Updated US Military Zippered Poncho Liner / Woobie Blanket
What it is : Last week I put up my review of the US Military Poncho Liner, AKA The Woobie Blanket - the version without the zipper - this video is going to focus on the zippered version which I mentioned I would be getting in soon.
For the most part, this is the exact same poncho liner; it can be used in all of the same ways with the exception being this - this version features a zipper that goes around the body of the blanket. When zippered it creates a sleeping bag of sorts.
Rarity : Locating a legit military surplus poncho liner with a zippered body isn’t all that easy - they aren’t available on the civilian market like the traditional, non-zippered model. Very limited supply and limited number of sellers.
Price : When I purchased this poncho liner, I located it for sale on eBay and I paid $32 for it and that included free shipping. The condition was Grade D.
The grading scale is simple; A is best & that would be like new.
D is bad and F is terrible with everything else in between.
When I purchased this, the seller that Ihave linked to only had Grade D liners but at the time of filming this video, they have B, C and D
Grade B’s were listed for $100.
Weight : 1lb 10.2oz
Measurements Unfolded : 88” long - 64” wide
Measurements Zippered : 88” long - 32”
Measurements Compressed : 12” long x 6” ….. Info : The poncho liner is part of a wet weather System; the poncho liner was designed to work with the US military poncho as an insulation layer but can be used by itself in numerous ways.
Blanket - protective cover - sleeping bag and so on.
Colors : With this specific zippered poncho liner, I have only seen this available in a digital woodland; it may be available in other patterns but I haven’t seen them myself. The traditional version can be found in digital woodland, the Army’s universal combat pattern, USAF’s Environmental Camo and so on. … My thoughts comparing this zippered poncho liner to the traditional model;
I much prefer the zipper and having the ability to make this into a true sleeping bag. You could do that with the traditional model but since it couldn’t be zippered it wasn’t quite as warm.
This newer version retains all of the benefits of the traditional with no sacrifices from my perspective. …. Condition of the Liner : I mentioned that I purchased this liner in a graded D condition and that’s exactly what I received. It featured a large size hole that went all the way through and the zipper was almost broken. Luckily it was repairable and I was able to correct the issues to my satisfaction with an iron-on polyester patch - once it was in place, I went around the patch with my wife’s sewing machine. I also repaired the zipper as well as I could by hand and have re-enforced it. It’s nice and smooth and should be usable for years to come. …. Variants : Before I say goodbye, I’ve mentioned in my review of the traditional poncho liner that there are many companies out there who make variants of this product; some make replicas while others have a product that is loosely based upon the original military spec. The products that are loosely based on the mil spec are known as “Styles”
- US Military Poncho Liner “Style”
One has to be careful when purchasing a product like this as there are a lot of companies who are willing to do and say anything to make a sale. They may even go as far as saying that a product is legit military surplus when that isn’t accurate or true at all.
I recently got in one of these military style poncho liners with a zipper and I will have a video up next week discussing it and how it’s different.
I can tell you this much, it is very interesting!!! The Differences may shock you. ... 100% Agenda Free: This channel is Agenda Free and is fully supported by the viewers.
This is one of my most Favorite pieces of Gear EVER! Known as a Woobie Blanket by some, a Poncho Liner by others; it is a highly versatile piece of kit that can be used year round as a blanket, a sleeping bag, a pillow, a liner and so much more.

FYI; I don't live in the Deep Gap area, I only have a PO Box there for packages due to privacy; it may take me a few weeks to check the box due to distance. ... What it is : This is a US Military poncho liner, which is a form of blanket that is also informally known as a woobie.
It was designed to be used alone or with a US Military Poncho as an insulating layer. When used alone, it can be a blanket, a sleeping bag, and a protective cover.
Agenda Free Link : eBay.com
Variants To Be Aware Of : When it comes to these liners, you are going to find one of 3 variants out there;
- Military Surplus - official products used by soldiers Reproductions - companies who make an identical copy of the original design - they may make this in colors and camp patterns that weren’t originally offered but the design is virtually the same.
- Styled Liners - This is where a company takes the basics of the liner and have made serious alterations to them. They may call it improved, call it a tactical poncho liner and so on. These products are merely based upon the original liner…..they are “styled.”
Cost : A good condition Woobie is going to run around $40. If you are purchasing military surplus, make sure to confirm condition as these have been used all around the world and it’s easy to get one that is in rough condition. Ask the seller questions and ask to see pictures if buying used.
Design : Designed to be intentionally thin for lightweight, no-bulk packing.
How Does it Attach to a Poncho? Using the tie cords at the corners, they are tied through the grommets on the ponchos.
Colors : Woodland, Digital Camo & others.
Measurements : 87” x 64”
Weight : 2lbs
Materials : Quilted nylon with a polyester filling. It is attached to the poncho by means of integral lengths of material which are looped through the poncho's eyelets.
History and Versions : The poncho liner has been around for a long time and there are a number of military versions.
Poncho liners were first used by the U.S. military in the Vietnam War. They gained the nickname "woobie" later; that term is conjectured to have derived from the name for a child's security blanket in the 1983 movie Mr. Mom.
From what I have read, the US Poncho Liner was first fielded in 1962 to special forces troops in Vietnam. It consists of two layers of quilted nylon encasing a polyester batting. There were tie-cords on the corners and side that could be tied through matching grommets on rain ponchos. They measured 62 x 82 inches. The intent was to field an item which was lighter & faster drying than the standard-issue Army Wool Blanket, which had essentially been rendered obsolete in the wet and tropical environment of Vietnam.
The first ones were Olive Drab on both sides & the earliest models featured squared corners.
Until the USMC produced their own Digital Woodland Pattern, most poncho liners were produced with the same pattern on both sides. The Marines decided to field one with Woodland Pattern on one side & a solid Coyote Color on the other.
Most recently, there have been models produced & issued in the Army's Universal Combat Pattern, the USAF's Environmental Camouflage Pattern, and Multicam/Scorpion II/etc. Also, some models have a zipper that goes around the edges.
Summary : I continue to love the Woobie Blanket, it’s a great piece of kit that I use on & off all year around. In the summer on hot nights I will use it all by itself instead of a sleeping bag and it works great! I can stay comfortable with regular clothing down to 50f.
In the colder months, I will use them to layer in my sleeping bag for additional warmth. I’ll bring it along with me just in case I need extra warmth & I’ll even use it as a pillow.
Speaking of cold conditions, a Woobie by itself is not enough of an insulation layer to keep you warm. It’s a VERY thin blanket; it’s not the same as a wool blanket, a quilt or a sleeping bag.
For the money, a Woobie is impossible to beat as it is highly versatile and is so favorably viewed around the world for a reason. ... 100% Agenda Free : This channel is Agenda Free and is fully supported by the viewers.

What is it : This is an ultralight summer time down blanket that can be used in numerous ways. For an example, I’ve taken this across the country as part of my overlanding kit, I’ve taken it backpacking and after a long testing period, I am ready to share my thoughts.
Materials : 20D Ripstop 650 Fill Down (80/20 blend of duck down and weathers)
Weight : Company claims 1.1lbs with stuff sack - accurate
Measurements : 77”x50”
Colors : Black, Blue, Grey, Green, Orange, Blue
Versions : Down and Synthetic - The Synthetic version is heavier and is slightly less expensive. More about it in a minute
Features : Durable Water Repellent coating Can be worn as a poncho with included snaps Roll top Stuff bag
Temp Rating : This is going to be very, very subjective as everyone is different when it comes to temperature and what they find comfortable.
For myself, it has kept me warm down to 50F while wearing clothing; shirt, socks and pants. I tend to run hot.
For Susie, it has kept her warm down to around 60 and she runs cold.
Keep in mind that this is a 1lb blanket, don’t expect to be rocking this by itself in cold weather and you’ll be fine. Again, temp rating are very suggestive; there is going to be someone out there who says they used it below freezing in a blizzard on Everest and they were hot…..but that isn’t going to be the case for most people. The temp range that I stated is reasonably accurate.
Review Pros :
Excellent warm weather insulation option; Overall quality is good; stitching is good, snaps are good.
Nylon material is comfortable against the skin.
Extremely lightweight
Excellent supplemental insulation layer; in other words, when using this with additional components it shines; use it with a sleeping bag liner, use it to add some warmth to your existing sleeping bag.
Example : I have a sleeping bag liner from Carinthia and in conjunction with this blanket, low 40’s is easily achievable and together it’s a lightweight kit.
Good color options
Very compressible.
Stuff bag is excellent - good size, easy to stuff, roll top
Price is comparable to other offersing Review Cons :
With that being said, for what you are receiving as far as down goes, less than a pound, this blanket feel expensive. Susie thought that it cost $35 and was shocked to see a price tag of $70.
Small - some individuals will want and need a larger blanket - this is not very wide. Because it is so small, it is easy to become uncovered as you toss and turn throughout the night.
Thin
Snaps - As is, I do not find them to be useful - I would have liked to see snaps on the top and bottom - it would help with staying warm in cool conditions as it would prevent the blanket from falling away when tossing and turning.
A foot box would be very beneficial and would be easy to add to this product.
Down loss : Susie and I both have one of these blankets and we both experienced some initial down loss which has stopped. I never saw where the features were coming from but when we got them and first used them we both had feathers on us during the first couple of nights out. Feathers might have been in the stuff bag…not sure
… Summary Review :
I have gone over a lot of pros and cons and I’m sure that you are wondering, do i recommend this or not;
There is a time and a place for this product and I wish that the company was a bit more forthcoming about when that time was. The company claims that it is comfortable 45F with a sleeping pad but I do not find that to be accurate.
There are the issues with the measurements and then the difficulty to distinguish the down from the synthetic versions.
I do like the product and there are times and ways to use it where it works well; for some it will be worth it and for others, this is not going to be a beneficial product.
Comment down below, what do you think of this down blanket? Is this a product for you? ...

Review Pros :
Versatile-can be used in many ways. - Works for ground sleepers and hammock users Easy to vent if you are getting warm
Price is excellent!
Good size for most people- easy to stay covered
Weight is also very good
Material is comfortable against the skin
Warmth; far warmer than what I was expecting. It’s rated for 50F but I have taken into the mid 40’s and was still warm. Your mileage will vary but 50F is accurate for most people. Excellent quality all around with only Minor loose threads here and there Good compression bag; it works and compresses quite small
No hood which allows for a seamless blanket/quilt use – with other similar products, I have never used the hood myself.
Review Cons :
For some, a lack of hood could be a negative.
I would love to see snaps all the way to the top of the blanket so it could be used as a sleeping bag of sorts
It lacks a way to secure itself to a sleeping pad so that the user can toss and turn without it moving with them
Compression bag could be a bit bigger and that would make getting the blanket into it with a sloppy roll.
Because the nylon material is silky, rolling it tight enough to fit can be problematic.

Review Pros :
Excellent insulation for temps down to around $50. This is of course subjective for everyone but once the temps went into the 40’s, I was getting cold. I’ve heard from some viewers who were told by other youtubers that this would take them comfortably into the 30’s. That’s not true at all; I’ve confirmed this with my own testing and with the experiences of those viewers who I spoke it. You might be able to push it down into the 30’s but you would have to be wearing some seriously warm layers. Realistically, 50f is the comfort zone.
Excellent quality.
Awesome design
Very functional
Easy to use as a blanket, sleeping bag, sleeping bag liner, poncho, great for hammock in warm weather
Is fully USGI poncho compatible
Hood is warm
Very good price.
Small form factor – larger than a woobie blanket but it is more versatile.
Sheds water thanks to a DWR coating
hood is adjustable
Review Cons :
My biggest con is size; for wider individual it could be an issue. Not height wise as it is 79” long, but it is rather narrow at 27.5” If you have wide shoulders or are just a big individual, it may be too small. For myself, length wise it fits fine but width wise, it is at the point of being uncomfortable. I have a shoulder diameter of 48” and if you are any larger than that, it will be too tight.
Nylon material is what I would label as civilian grade; not military. While I haven’t had any issues and I don’t see any reason why I would, I have seen reports of some rips and tearing online with hard use. I’ve read that the outer and inner materials not not mil-spec.
Smallish head hole size; big heads or wearing a hat it may be snug if not impossible. Also, small face hole.
Summary :
Do I recommend this product? Absolutely! This is another product from Helikon that is absolutely top notch. The quality is excellent, very versatile, price is reasonable, warm for what it is, great form factor and it is everything that the Woobie blanket isn’t and I have no problem recommending it.
Again, for wide individuals using this in sleeping bag mode may be impossible. For myself, it’s right at the point of being uncomfortable. I can make it work but I wish there was more space. Keep that in mind before purchasing and also, keep in mind the temp range. Realistically, 50f comfort. Don’t listen to nonsense; commonsense will tell you that this won’t keep you warm at 30f unless you have VERY warm clothing layers….if you do, that makes you wider and it may not fit.
Today Luke is taking a look at some hard to find military surplus;
The Israeli Poncho Liner. Is it better than the USGI Woobie Blanket?
Find out now.....You will want to see this blanket.
Original Swiss Wool Blankets have a long history of being some of the best wool blankets ever made but after all of these years they are hard to find and if located, they are very expensive. Paying $160 for one is very common place.
Dark taupe with burgandy
Beautiful copy of the Swiss Army Blanket. We had these extra heavyweight ones made. Hand sewn white cross on each end. 70 percent wool. Measures 60" x 84". Weighs a very nice 5.9 pounds. Shades of brown will vary a bit.
Hardly ever has there been a blanket that is more famous and sought after then the Swiss Army Blanket. For 20 years we sold the original stock from the Swiss Army until it was completely sold out worldwide. So... using the precise original specifications we re-created these beautiful blankets at a very affordable price. 70% fine wool with a white stitched cross. Measures 60 x 80 inches and weighs a whopping 3.9 pounds.
Somewhere a couple years back during my clothing / blanket research I stumbled on an article that referenced studies the Wehrmacht conducted on wool content in uniforms during the war. If memory serves they found that they could get down to around ~70% wool content before they had any significant change in the insulative qualities of their wool uniforms.
As it stands, that made the 80/20 blends a pretty easy buy for me, and a significant savings over shelling out for the 100% wool Italian blankets. Your mileage may vary.
Review :
Excellent Quality blankets at a terrific cost
Tightly woven
Very warm
Cons
Slightly scratchy against the skin with a military surplus smell which makes sense considering that these are coming from a military surplus provider
I would recommend washing these by hand in the tub a few times with some fabric softener and lanolin. You can even add some eucalyptus to the mixture for a natural bug repellant!
Once you wash it, let it air dry. Don’t throw this in the dryer unless you want to shrink the hell out of it.
These make excellent bushcraft and truck blankets. Get one, wash it, treat it to make it softer at a terrific value.
Very beautiful charcoal grey colored wool blanket. Comes in at 4.6 pounds, and measures in at 64"x 90" with 80% wool / 20% polyester
Durable Whipped Edges
The wool is soft and isn’t course in the least bit.
The size of these blankets are perfect in my opinion as they are wider as well as longer by a few inches when compared to the average military surplus wool blanket
When it comes to quality, it reminds me an Italian Officers Blanket except it’s about a $100 cheaper, larger and is new!
Temperature rating 45 degrees, low 36 degrees
76"x64" weighing only 25 ounces
Travel soft insulation
Compresses down to 6"x6" for lightweight, compact traveling
Includes compression sack
