Review Pros :
Good number of modes
Plenty of Illumination
Good battery performance
Good overall mode Runtimes
Good Spacing between modes
Battery life indicator
USB-C Charging
Fast Charging - 1.5 hours
Excellent charging port cover - the NU32 cover absolutely sucked and barely worked
Comfortable
Not heavy but still solid feeling
Easy to operate
Good button sensation even with medium thickness gloves

Review Cons :
Head strap comes loose over time
Non-removable battery may be a con for some
Lack of a dimming option for the red mode - it’s bright which I like but there are times when a lower setting would be beneficial

Summary :
After running this headlamp for the last couple of weeks I have to say that I really like it.  It doesn’t have any glaring problems, the performance is good, the weight is good and the price is also good.

To be honest, after reviewing the terrible NiteCore UT27 I wasn’t sure that I would take a look another one of their headlamps….seriously, that headlamp was absolutely terrible but being that I liked the NU32 so much I gambled on this one and I’m pleasantly surprised.

This Japanese Camp Lantern Impresses - SOTO ST-260 Butane Lantern Review

This is a Japanese made lantern that runs on Butane fuel; made by SOTO which is one of my favorite outdoor brands.  A few years ago I stumbled upon this product, had it imported from eBay and have been using it ever since.  Luckily purchasing these in the US is a whole lot easier.

:: SOTO ST-260 Butane Lantern Review ::

Materials : stainless steel construction, legs, break resistant mesh
Measurements : 5” tall 3.5” wide plus the fuel canister 4.25” wide at the legs

Weight : 9.5oz with storage bag

Cost : $75 off of Amazon

Includes : Lantern, Storage bag, 3 mantels

Output : This information I haven’t been able to get a solid answer on; I’ve seen claims that this is comparable to a 80W light bulb on the highest setting. At the highest setting, I’ve ran this for over 3 hours.  At a toned down level it will go a lot longer. I’ve gotten over 6 hours with varying intensities.

Mantels : These lanterns use the ST-2601 Mantel; these come in 3 packs and I was able to locate those on Amazon and ordered some.  You likely can use mantels from other companies such as coleman as well if you had to.

Shipping : When purchased from Amazon, it’s going to take some time for the product to arrive as it has to come from Japan.  It is not as far as I know available in the USA so it has to be imported.

I purchased mine off of eBay a few years ago and now, they are available on Amazon which makes these even simpler.  Talking about purchasing from Amazon, the listing calls this the Shinfuji regulator lantern; Shinfuji is the parent company of SOTO.

Features
This lantern features a regulator which allows for constant performance even when the fuel is cold - without the regulator the lantern would burn less bright in cold conditions.

The regulator also provides some safety; if the unit falls over while ignited, it won’t flare up which is important.

Review Pros :
Very well made product - has a great feel and weight to it.
Fuel efficient - I’ve ran this
Always ignites
easy to use
Fairly compact design
Puts off a good amount of warm light - brighter than the Coleman NorthStar which is also a great lantern
The company does make larger lanterns if you need more light
Puts off plenty of light for a small seating area and table.
Puts off a lot of heat and in fact, I have seen some Japanese camping videos with people cooking on top of these with a grill stand
Very stable
Produces a very warm and comforting light
can be used in a variety of situations; home, cabin, vehicle, in tents and so on
Incredibly quiet
Replacing the mantels is quick and easy
The Soto mantles last a very long time; I’ve been using this one for 2.5 years

Review Cons
The storage bag offers virtually no protection - a hard case would make more sense
No way to hang this so light is limited to what it is sitting on

Haven RidgeLight - USB Powered Dimmable String Lights - Real Review

What it is : What I have here today is an ultralight lighting solution that you can use for a variety of purposes.  For an example, my wife and I own two of these and we’ve used them for hammock camping along the inside of the hammock as part of the ridge line, we use them camping, we use them overlanding the country.

The versatility of this string light is amazing and guess what, the price isn’t bad at all!

Includes
Storage bag
Ridgelight
2 Silicon ties so you can cinch the RidgeLight to a line or object

Length : 78” long

Weight : 3.3 oz for the light
The storage bag is 8g

Power Draw : 6 watts at the highest light output

Price : $24

Features
carabiners at each end for attaching and hanging the light.
Fully dimmable - when the light is on, touch and hold the power switch and it will dim.  Repeat and it will get brighter
Silicon wrapped light that is surprisingly oh water resistant.  Speaking of which, the company makes no claims of waterproofness or water resistance…my claims are based upon my experiences when using this in extremely wet situations

Review Pros :
Excellent quality
Impressively water resistant - I would keep it as dry as possible but my experiences have been excellent in this department.
Price is very fair
Puts out a lot of light
Dimmable
Extremely lightweight
Easy setup and breakdown - Carabiners make attaching this and stringing it up very easy
The carry bag does add some functionality other than storing the Ridgelight - with that being said, I rarely use it…
Silicon cover does a great job protecting the LEDs.
The silicon cover is also easy to clean - if it gets dirty, you can wipe it off rather easily.
On / off switch works well - touch and it is on.  Touch and it is off.
Power consumption is excellent

Review Cons
I had to think long and hard about this and folks, I couldn’t come up with any cons for this product.

It works well, puts out a lot of light, the weight is low, the price is right…

Summary :
When I first got this item in to test out, I didn’t think for a second that I would enjoy using it as much as I do but I love the Haven Ridgelight;

I know that sounds like a sales pitch but it isn’t.  Just in case you don’t know, the channel is Agenda Free; I don’t care if you buy this…that means nothing to me as it doesn’t benefit me at all.

My channel shares information and that’s it.

Anyways, this light is incredibly versatile and as I mentioned you can use this in many, many ways.  Tent, Hammock, Vehicle, Tarp, etc

Before wrapping this up, I will share with you all how I carry this light with me on my adventures.

I’m a fan of lightweight storage bags so here I’m using a TT mesh storage bag and inside of it I have a small flashlight, headlamp, power bank and the RidgeLight.

The power bank is from NiteCore, it’s a 10,000mAh pack and it is super lightweight.

The weight of the RidgeLight is 3.3
The weight of the Power Bank is 5.3oz
Together the weight is 8.6oz

Have You Ever Seen a Headlamp this Warm / Orange? - NiteCore UT27 Headla...

This is my Agenda Free Review of the NiteCore UT27 Headlamp and unfortunately, it misses the mark in my opinion.

Why is the spotlight mode so ORANGE?

...
NiteCore UT27 Headlamp :
What it is : This is a lightweight headlamp from the well known lighting brand NiteCore. They make a wide range of headlamps and flashlights and their quality is generally excellent.

Agenda Free Link : https://www.amazon.com/NITECORE-UT27-Rechargeable-Headlamp-Running/dp/B09M1BXRYQ

Cost : $55

Weight : 2.7oz on my scale

Battery : Lithium Ion HLB-1300mAh
Additional Batteries can be purchased for $10

Modes : Read Card

Waterproof Rating : IP66 - this is good for protection from dust and strong jets of water from any direction

Materials : Plastic housing

Review Pros :
Easy to use!
Excellent weight
Doesn’t bounce around on your head when running nor walking.
Dual beam functionality with the flood and the spot.
Red Mode - I’m a fan of this mode myself and I find that I use it a great deal.
Replaceable battery -
Additional batteries are inexpensive.
AAA Batteries can also be used but you won’t get the same battery life. It will be a few hours shorter in most modes
Battery indicator
Ability to Lock the Headlamp so that it doesn’t turn on accidentally when bouncing around in your pack.

Comfortable headband - fully adjustable

Cons :
I dislike the color variants of the LEDs and much prefer cool white light to warmer tons. With this headlamp, you have a strong cool white 3000K on one side and a very strong warm 5700K on the other; it’s jarring to switch between these and in fact, it takes some time for your eyes to adjust to the stark differences.

Speaking of the Warm light, it’s so strong that I find that it washes out some details of the landscape which is a problem when trail running.

More importantly than the differences in the color performance of the LED’s, is the overall performance of illumination. On the highest of settings, unfortunately there are times where it is simply not putting off enough light to see the landscape before you.

What I’ve noticed with my testing is that when the sun is going down and you are at the point where you need some light but it is not completely dark out yet; it is rather difficult to see with this headlamp and that’s because of the limited max brightness of this headlamp. It’s a situation where your eyes are having to adjust to the light of the headlamp and the present but limited light of the environment; that’s the best way that I can describe it but in the end, the limited overall performance of this headlamp is hindering in that brief moment until it gets dark.

When it’s completely dark out and your eyes are adjusted, the performance is adequate.

While you have dual functionality with the flood and spot, neither mode is exceptionally powerful nor strong. It’s Adequate but not exceptional in either mode.

With the white flood, it’s simply not very bright - just enough for walking and backpacking but not for running.

The warm spot is brighter, allows for you to see further head but because it’s so warm it masks the terrain and can make seeing everything in detail difficult. For an example, the warm color can make a root that is sticking up the same color as the ground and you won’t be able to tell what it is until you are about the trip over it.

Turbo mode which is both modes operating at the same time, that is 520 lumens - this offers plenty of visibility but unfortunately the duration is limited before it will turn off. It will run for 30 seconds before shifting down.

Summary :
How well this performs will depend on how you are using it. For trail running, I find that this headlamp isn’t my first choice even though it is very light. The overall performance simply isn’t strong enough to be safe.

For biking, I wouldn’t use this headlamp due to the performance; it would be dangerous in my opinion with the limited output.

For hiking, it’s just enough to make your way through the environment.

For around camp uses, it’s more than enough.

……
Forward :
At least 2 years ago, a viewer sent this lantern in and I have been using it ever since.

I’ve mentioned that there are two versions of this lantern, the 300rl and the 314; the 314 model is the latest from Nite Ize and has replaced the 300RL officially. With that being said, you can still find the 300RL for sale and since I receive so many questions about it I’m here with the review.

Both versions of this lantern appear to be exactly the same as far as features go.
……
Review Pros :
After using this product for years I can easily tell you that it has been an excellent lantern.

Battery life has been very good and easily covers my needs for multi day adventures when I don’t mind bringing a luxury item.

Produces plenty of light to see around a picnic table or inside of a tent.

Easy to Operate

Good size

Red light is useful - I often use it when turning in at night;

Battery retains a charge for a long period of time.

Fairly Lightweight

Large button is easy to activate but not too easy - can be activated even with gloves on

Can be used to juice up a device but the capacity isn’t all that large.
……..
Review Cons :

No lockout function - the power button is large and it is possible to activate it when in your bag.

Fairly expensive; you can get lanterns for far less that offer more lumens.

Battery is non removable - if you have an issue, it can’t be replaced.

No USB C port - uses out dating MicroUSB

The biggest con that I have with this lantern are the potential issues that one may have with it. No, I haven’t had any issues but the net is FULL of reports of people who have had a wide range of issues. I’ve seen countless reports of these lanterns ceasing to work, falling apart and units that won’t hold a charge.
…..
Interesting :
While getting the details together for this review, I discovered that there are relabel versions of this Lantern. In fact, LL Bean has their very own version; the 300 Trailblazer ($50).

Summary :
While this lantern has performed extremely well for me over the years I do have a hard time recommending it based on the high amount of issues and problems that I have seen for every model that Nite Ize makes. For every positive review there have got to be at least 2 negatives.

Fenix LR40R USB-C Rechargeable 12000 Lumen Flashlight

This channel is Agenda Free and is fully supported by the viewers.
Support TOGR with Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/TOGR

Today Luke is reviewing a POWERHOUSE of a Flashlight;

12,000 Lumens of Power!

This is the Fenix LR40R USB-C Rechargeable Flashlight

Link : https://www.fenixlighting.com/product/fenix-lr40r-flashlight-12000-lumens/

Price : $356.00 – At the time of filming on sale for $269.95

Weight : 1lbs 8.6oz

Power : 12,000 Combined Lumens

Purpose : The Fenix LR40R is a high-performance rechargeable flashlight that combines a spotlight and floodlight to blast a max 12000 lumens 2100 feet (700 yards). Quickly charge this flashlight’s battery pack in as little as 3.3 hours via the USB Type-C port, or use the discharge function to charge your other devices. A battery level indicator lets you know the status of your batteries. Extremely small for a flashlight with this much power, only 6.1” long, this flashlight is the perfect tool for exploring and search and rescue.

What about night hiking?  For night hiking, this is the ultimate flashlight; when the level of flood that this light provides, it’s like hiking with headlights; I’ve never experienced anything like what this flashlight provides in that regards.

Battery : Fenix ARB-L37-12000 rechargeable Li-ion battery pack,

Length: 6.1” (154mm)

Width: 3.2” (80mm)

Height: 2.0” (51mm)

Four blue lights on: 100% – 80% - Three blue lights on: 80% – 60%

Two blue lights on: 60% – 40% - One blue light on: 40% – 20% - One blue light flashes: 20% – 0

The broad beam contains 18 Cree XP-G3-S4 LED lights. The spotlight mode contains 1 Cree XP-L-HI V3 LED light. The flashlight works with the included Fenix ARB-L37-12000 rechargeable Li-ion battery. The battery has a capacity of 12000mAh and works up to 92 hours / 4 days.

Flood light

Turbo: 11000 lumens (45 minutes) - High II: 6000 lumens (2 hours) - High I: 3000 lumens (2 hours and 50 minutes)

Medium: 1000 lumens (7 hours and 15 minutes) - Low: 350 lumens (22 hours and 44 minutes)

Strobe: 3000 lumens - SOS: 350 lumens

Spotlight

High: 1000 lumens (7 hours) - Medium: 350 lumens (22 hours and 30 minutes)

Low: 150 lumens (44 hours and 31 minutes) - Eco: 60 lumens (92 hours and 18 minutes

Pros :

Second level flood adequate for walking and seeing the ground. It's like hiking with headlights in front of you.

Distance of flood light is excellent. You can see close and far.

Throw is going to be the less used of the modes for most people and situations

Highest level of flood is extremely hot even after down shift.

Doesn't create much heat for lower levels which one would use most of the time

Entire flashlight will get hot with the head being too hot to touch

Throw mode is only useable for long distance illumination.

Can use both modes at the same time.

Excellent search and rescue tools

Stainless steel side switches - excellent

12000 combined lumens, not 12000 per mode which is disappointing. When you read the package and see those figures and turn it on for the first time it is a bit of a let down and that's because it is only 6000 per mode.

Definitely heavy for backpacking but when handheld it’s not bad at all.  It doesn’t wear you out or anything like that.

Excellent battery life

Can run on one or more 18650 batteries in an emergency situation

Battery level indictor

USB discharging function, backup for digital devices as you like. When discharging, you can still use this light in Eco and Low levels on Spotlight mode.

Lockable by holding both buttons

If you want to do night hiking and want to see all of the trail; 100% of it this is the light for the you as the output is amazing

USB-C Charging - The Type-C USB fast charging system only takes 3.3 hours to get a complete charge.

CONS :

Throw isn’t all that impressive in terms of brightness.  Yes it throws a long distance, far further and brighter than your average flashlight but I would like to see it being even stronger.  That is in my opinion the only real con other than the flashlight features a total of 12,000 lumens but that is combined and there isn’t a single mode which will over you true 12,000 lumens

With gloves on you are going to do some fiddling around searching for the buttons

Initial versions of this light featured incorrect SOS flashes but this has been addressed

With flood on, you will barely notice the throw beam.

What a Mistake! HaHa - Sunjack LightStick Mini Powerbank – Review

Support TOGR with Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/TOGR

Up for review is the Sunjack LightStick Mini.  Watch now to find out why this product has Luke shaking his head.  What a Mistake.....

Link Sunjack Web Site : https://www.sunjack.com/products/waterproof-lightstick-powerbank?variant=26229579017

Link Amazon : https://www.amazon.com/SunJack-Waterproof-LightStick-Mini-Backpacking/dp/B0195TNJXQ

Price : $30

Weight : 4.5oz with lanyard

Light : 350 Lumens

Battery Bank : 2.600 mAh battery bank

Mini Technical Specifications

• Waterproof LightStick – a rugged, portable lighting solution complete with internal powerbank.
• 2 brightness levels + emergency flash (350 lumens on brightest setting)
• IP68 Waterproof to 6.5 feet depth

durable ABS  body, no glass, shock resistant.

• Full charge in 5 hours from the wall, provides up to 60 hours of light on lowest setting.. Highest setting is around 5 hours.

Red SOS Mode

• 2600mAh internal battery charges up to 2 smartphones
• Unit Dimension: 6" x 1.5" x 1.5" (15.25cm x 3.8cm x 3.8cm)
• Unit Weight: 4oz / 113.4g
• Packaging Dimension: 6" x 2" x 1.75" (15.2cm x 5.1cm x 4.5cm)

Pros :

….

Sunjack makes excellent quality lightsticks; some I have had for years now and they continue to work flawlessly. A few years back I received a knockoff from a company; don’t remember the name of it but it didn’t work very well.  The point of this is; Sunjack continues to offer excellent quality products and that is true with the LightStick Mini.

Good amount of light on all three settings.

It isn’t 360 degrees of light so you can hold it, work and not blind yourself at the same time.

Great for backpacking; use around camp at night and then charge your phone.

The interface works; but it is a bit clunky as you have to click to switch modes and to turn it off.  Not a con, just clunky.

Makes for an excellent emergency light source and battery bank.

Makes for a great work light too.

Excellent size; not too big, not to small.

Weather resistant; I’ve used this one in light rain without any issues and the regular size model has seen rain, snow and bitter colds.  Handled all conditions without any issues.  I don’t expect this model to have any issues either but I will update if something comes up.

Tail cap is secured to the stick so you won’t lose it

You can use the light and charge your device at the same time. Only the lowest setting is available.

Cons
Considering that the full size stick is offers more modes and a larger battery bank, you would expect these sticks to be further apart in regards to price but they aren’t.  The mini is only $10 cheaper than the regular size.

Because of the shape of this stick, it doesn’t stand very well and will roll easily.

the red "SOS" signal is NOT correct -- it blinks 3 short, 2 long, 4 short and then repeats this pattern. In Morse code this is "SMH" not "SOS".. For me, it’s not a deal breaker; to be honest, I don’t care at all.

SMH stands for; shaking my head.. FAIL!

SOS is

3 short, 3 long, 3 short.

* Pulse location mode which is a bright burst of light every 2 seconds so rescue worker could find you.

* If you press down ½ of the switch travel with the red LEDs on then the red LEDs will flash off and on.

It has a drop resistance of 1.5 meters or 4.92 feet. It is also waterproof and submersible to IPX-67 which means to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes. It is also dust resistant. Just make sure that you properly reinsert the battery cap and snap it in properly. I show that in my video. My only minor complaint is that snapping the cover on is a little tough and you really have to make sure that you have inserted the batteries perfectly before the cover will close properly.

Weight : 7.85 ounces

Measurements:  10½"x1½”

Includes two lanyards which can be used to attach to packs and so on in different ways.

the end pieces of the LightStick are beveled, not round, so the LightStick won't roll away when it's placed on a flat surface.

To recharge the battery with the 5V/1A charger took about 4½ hours

I tested the battery life at the highest illumination level, and the light was on for 5¼ hours before the battery died.

The LightStick has an IP68 rating. International Protection Marking codes, also known as IPX codes, classify and rate the degree of protection provided against the intrusion of dust and water by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures. The IP68 rating implies that the LightStick is dust-tight and safe for continuous immersion in water up to 3 meters deep (note that the manufacturer limits the depth to 6 feet). I tested the water-tightness in a sink filled with water. The LightStick worked fine even under a few inches of water, while I learned that it actually floats unless it's being held underwater.

When charging a device you can use the light as well but only on the low setting.
