Snugpak Scorpion 3 - Preview

Today Luke previews the Snugpak Scorpion 3 Tent!  Inexpensive 4 Season Protection!

http://www.snugpak.com/outdoor/scorpion-3

http://www.amazon.com/Snugpak-92880-Scorpion-Tactical-Shelter/dp/B003U9853C

Price : Retail is $399 but can be picked up on Amazon at the time of filming for $269.95

When you’re spending quality time outdoors, the last thing you need is for the rain and wind to spoil your fun. Scorpion is an expert in this field.

A new addition to the Snugpak range, the Scorpion 3 is a sleek, three person tent, designed and built to fend off those fierce winds that kick up from time to time, and for long term hard use. With its 5000mm PU fly, it can also handle large amounts of rain, making sure you and your gear stay dry.

The Scorpion 3™ is also a Fly First pitch type tent so you can quickly set up the fly and seek shelter from the elements.

• One door and three vents for comfortable air circulation

• Ten internal mesh pockets to keep your kit off the ground creating more available floor space (5 on each side)

• All seams are sealed and taped

• 190t Nylon PU 5000mm groundsheet to ensure the tent stays 100% waterproof (bath tub style)

• Shape / Style 3 person tent

• Flysheet is a lightweight 210t Polyester RipStop with a 5000mm waterproof polyurethane coating

• Inner Tent constructed of 190t Nylon with Polyester Mesh

• 50D Polyester No-See-Um-Mesh Mosquito Net.

• Flame Retardant

• Hanging loop at the head end of the sleeping compartment

• DAC® Featherlite NSL® anodized poles with pressfit connectors

• All DAC® Poles are made from TH72M aluminium

• Alloy Stakes (18 + 2 Spare Stakes)

• Available in Olive Outer with Black Inner only

• Trail Weight - 2.93kgs (Fly, Poles & Inner Tent)

• Pack Weight - 3.4kgs (Fly, Poles, Inner Tent, Stakes, Guy Ropes & Stuff Sack)

For individuals over 6’5 you may want to try this tent out to see if it will work for you.  I had a friend of mine hope in and he fit comfortably at that height but if he was any taller it wouldn’t.

Like most three person tents you can cramp three people in but two will be comfortable.  three will be close.

Great for Stealth camping

Thick material

Sturdy

Solid

Impressive quality

Bathtub floor

Vestibule will keep out the rain

Easy setup

Very warm.

I use a foot print with all of my tents and this is no exception.  That is a personal choice to extend the life of the product.

There are three poles, and each pole is color coded to a small piece of fabric on the end of pole sleeve (2 identical poles with green pole selections to match to two sections of green band, and gray to gray). This tent is a fly first pitch.

The pole sleeves were really reinforced, and I see them lasting a long time as it is a tougher material rubberized type of material.

Aqua Quest Defender Tarp - Review

Up for review is what I consider the perfect Bushcraft tarp; the Aqua Quest Defender Tarp!!!

Link : http://www.amazon.com/Aqua-Quest-Defender-Tarp-Waterproof/dp/B004I4EXVG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1445455876&sr=8-2&keywords=aqua+quest+camo+tarp

Price: $130 on the Aqua Quest web site.

$75 on Amazon

Heavy Duty Nylon Material

Extremely Durable

The company likes to describe this as Compact but no this is no compact in the least.

10 x 7 ft Medium

Available in a lot of colors

Camo, Camouflage, Brown, Black, Olive, Tan, Green

Waterproof : Yes

Materials:  70D nylon + Heavy TPU coating + Reinforced stitching + Heat taped seams

Weight : 2lbs 12oz.  Almost 3lbs. The tag on the package is printed incorrectly.

 packed size of 12 x 6 x 2.5 inch,

VERSATILE: With 20 reinforced webbing loops around the perimeter, pole inserts in all four corners, and 1 top center loop for overhead hanging, you've got all angles covered. Set it up in virtually any situation

USA SERVICE & WARRANTY: Aqua Quest is based in the Pacific Northwest, where they have designed and tested waterproof gear since 96. All products are protected by AQ's Two-Year 'No Worries Warranty'. Toll-free customer service Mon-Fri, 10-5 PST, at 1-844-775-7770.

This is what I consider to be the perfect bushcraft tarp.

More attachment points than I have ever seen!  If you are a fan of origami and tarps, this is a dream come true.

Cons:
The quality is excellent, the materials are very strong.  Typically when you have strength, there is weight and this is a heavy tarp.  3lbs for a tarp is heavy especially when a lot of tents these days are approaching the 1lb mark.

Not a great backpacking tarp because of weight.

* The ability to use either AA or CR123a cells allows me to choose the optimum battery for different conditions and usage scenarios.

* The light can be removed from the headband and used separately as an angle light, standing up on its tail end.

Unlubbed threads.  Not anodized

The user interface has 3 constant output levels - the low level is good for close up tasks, and the high provides plenty of light to see what's ahead. The light remembers the last mode used. It also has a momentary burst mode for the times you need the maximum amount of light. The rubber o-rings protect the light from immersion under water, and the metal construction means it won't crack if you accidentally drop it or step on it.

high turbo

I have owned the plastic cased LED headlamps that take multiple AAA batteries and they were a pain in the butt to change batteries and they broke which led me to this purchase. Replacing a battery takes less than a minute with no hinges or clips that could break or come loose.
