I just ran across this older post about Kelty tents. It is entirely possible that Kelty sold tents to SOF units, Special Forces A-detachments in particular, without the kind of contract normally required for large-scale acquisitions. And these acquisitions would not be reported publicly. These small units (an A-detachment is typically twelve men) could go shopping on the open market with a credit card. Kelty and other manufacturers (London Bridge, Tactical Tailor, many others) supply SOF units this way. So the comment from the manufacturer sounds perfectly reasonable to me in that context -- "Yes, we sold these to the US military, but we aren't going to tell you who."
