This happens to be my favorite hammock tip and if your hammock has a mesh bug net this is going to make your life a whole lot easier.

  1. This is a great tip, Luke. I use the bright orange 550 and even with no light source it can be seen against the darker color hammocks. It helps to put a knot at the pull end. Mine is long enough where I can place the knot through the loop of the adjustment cord lock of my underblanket or droop it over the tarp line if not using a bug net. Speaking of useful 550 hacks I made a small pillow case with a loop of 550 sewn into each corner of the open end. My Klymit inflatable pillow never slides anywhere due to the loop secured at the gathered end of the hammock with a small carabiner. It was irritating that whenever I raised my head the pillow would slide under me. When I pack up I extract the pillow and leave the pillow case attached to the hammock. When it gets dirty or "smelly" I just detach it and throw it into the washing machine. I made two pillow cases: a velour one for winter and a silk one for the summer. It's nice to lay my head onto cloth rather than a beach ball.
